Amazon Alert: Potential Changes to U.S. Import Requirements
Amazon has alerted sellers to potential future changes to U.S. import regulations following the release of Executive Order 14411.
Nothing changes for sellers today. No new rules have been finalized, no implementation deadlines have been announced, and current import operations remain unaffected. However, sellers are encouraged to review their import arrangements now to prepare for possible changes.
The key factor will be the status of your Importer of Record (IOR), the person or company officially responsible for importing goods into the United States. Depending on your shipping arrangement, the IOR may be your business, a freight forwarder, or a customs broker.
Future requirements may differ based on whether the IOR is classified as a U.S. entity or a foreign entity. If you work with a freight forwarder or customs broker, Amazon recommends asking them: “Is my Importer of Record a U.S. entity or a foreign entity?”

- Review your current U.S. import and customs arrangements.
- Confirm who is acting as your Importer of Record.
- Verify whether your IOR is classified as a U.S. or foreign entity.
- Stay alert for further announcements as the new requirements are developed and finalized.
