Amazon is enhancing its battery safety compliance requirements for Fulfilled by Merchant (FBM) listings, beginning July 28, 2025. This initiative aims to bolster customer safety and improve product information accuracy. Key changes for sellers include:

  1. Mandatory Battery Questions: When creating or editing FBM product listings containing batteries or battery-powered items, sellers will encounter new mandatory questions:
    1. “Are batteries required?”
    2. If “yes,” then “Are batteries included?” and “What is the battery cell composition?” (e.g., alkaline, lithium-ion).
  2. Information Sourcing: Battery cell composition details can be found on the battery itself, the manufacturer’s label, or product packaging. For unlisted battery types, a manual “other than listed” option is available.
  3. Consequences of Non-Compliance: Providing inaccurate information may result in listing deactivation.
  4. Additional Resources: Sellers can find more comprehensive information on Amazon’s hazardous materials (hazmat) policies.
